BIOGRAPHY

Dr Söderbaum is a consultant specialising in the energy sector policies and issues in Asia. He is also an Associate (Energy Advisor) of ACiL, an Australian consultancy firm which provides its clients with economics, policy and strategy advice on a wide range of subjects, including energy and resources issues in Asia. Prior to joining ACiL Dr Söderbaum worked for five and a half years as a Senior Policy Analyst for the Non-Member Countries Office of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris. During that time he completed many research projects examining energy sector policies and developments in Asia, including: the Asia Gas Study (published in April 1996), on the current and future role of natural gas in Asia; and the Asia Electricity Study (published in March 1997), which analysed existing and planned electricity policies in areas such as financing, regulation, environment and end-use efficiency. Dr Söderbaum has also written and published two in-depth reports on the energy policies and plans of the Republic of Korea. He has developed an extensive range of contacts with senior government officials, multilateral organisations, and the private sector in the Asia Pacific region. Before joining the IEA, Dr Söderbaum worked as a policy adviser to the Australian and UK Governments on a variety of energy related issues.
